What is the Training Institute?

The ADAMHS Board of Cuyahoga County operates a Training Institute that provides quality, affordable training to the behavioral health workforce, clients, family members and the public. The Training Institute is an approved provider through the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board and the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist Board offering Recognized Clock Hours (RCH) to Chemical Dependency Professionals as well as Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to Counselors and Social Workers.  

Fees for the ADAMHS Board Training Institute workshops are $25 per half-day (2-4 hour) session and $45 for a full-day (5+ hour) session. Occasionally, workshops will be offered free on an as-needed basis per topic. Workshop fees are non-refundable.

Hoarding Through the Clutter

The Hoarding Connection of Cuyahoga County is pleased to present their annual hoarding conference on Friday, November 8 from 8:15 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at the Educational Service Center of Northeast Ohio (6393 Oak Tree Blvd, Independence, OH 44131).  

Keynote Speaker, Dr. Randy O. Frost will discuss hoarding disorder and dive into its causes, emotional roots and effective interventions. Learn how to spot the signs—like excessive collecting, difficulty letting go and overwhelming clutter—and discover tools for assessing the severity of the problem. We'll explore the latest findings on emotional attachments and beliefs around possessions through compelling video examples. Plus, get hands-on with strategies to help clients stay motivated, organize, and reshape their relationship with their belongings. Dr. Frost will also discuss how to apply proven methods like the Buried in Treasures Workshop and cognitive behavior therapy. Following Dr. Frost's presentation we'll hear from a panel of local experts on how they address hoarding situations in Northeast Ohio.

9 – 10:30 a.m. – What is hoarding? – A description of the Phenomenology, Diagnosis, and Assessment of hoarding. 
10:30 – 10:45 a.m.– Break
10:45 – 11:30 a.m.– Why do people hoard?
11:30 AM – 12:15 p.m.– How can we treat hoarding?
12:15 – 1:15 p.m. – Lunch (provided)
1:15 – 2:45 p.m. – Panel Discussion
2:45 – 3:00 p.m. – Break
3:00 – 4:30 p.m. – How can we engage sufferers and maintain motivation for change?

The ADAMHS Board is an approved provider through the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board and the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist Board offering Recognized Clock Hours (RCH) to Chemical Dependency Professionals, as well as Continuing Professional Education hours (CEUs) to Counselors and Social Workers and has awarded 6 CEU/RCHs for this conference. All participants must attend the entire conference and complete an evaluation form with full licensure information to receive CEUs/RCHs. No partial CEUs/RCHs will be provided. Please allow 30 days from date of conference for attendance to be recorded in CE Broker and receipt of certificate. Certificates will be emailed to the email address used at registration.
