About QPR

The ADAMHS Board provides free QPR Training to gatekeepers in Cuyahoga County. A gatekeeper is anyone in a position to recognize a crisis and warning signs that someone may be contemplating suicide.

Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR) teaches three simple steps that anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicidal crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help.

Gatekeepers include primary health care providers, teachers, law enforcement, correctional staff, community volunteers, hospice and nursing home staff, mental health and addiction treatment providers, family members, friends, neighbors, colleagues, youth ministers, coaches, academic advisors, Sunday school teachers, and supervisors in the workplace.

Training Information

The ADAMHS Board will provide a certified QPR Instructor to conduct a free one to two-hour training session in-person or virtually. This instructor will come prepared with all training materials, including resources. Trainings can be held on-site at the company/organization/community group’s location or at the ADAMHS Board where we have free conference space available. The ADAMHS Board only provides this training in Cuyahoga County.

To schedule a QPR Training, contact Carole Ballard, LISW, Director of Education and Training.

QPR- Question, Persuade, Refer Suicide Prevention Training

If a friend, co-worker, or family member is showing signs of suicide, do you know what to do or say? Everyone has a role to play in suicide prevention. During this unprecedented time of COVID-19, we must increase prevention efforts to provide support and instill hope for those at risk of suicide.

The ADAMHS Board offers FREE QPR – Question, Persuade, Refer training throughout the year. QPR is an Evidence-Based Practice Model that teaches three simple steps that anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. The training will raise awareness about suicide, dispel myths and misconceptions, and teach warning signs of suicide followed by QPR Gatekeeper intervention.

The QPR training will be presented via Zoom on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
