Theater of War is an innovative public health project that presents powerful dramatic readings of Sophocles’ Ajax, an ancient Greek war play, as a catalyst for facilitated town hall discussions in communities about combat and deployment-related stress, psychological injury, alcohol and substance abuse, suicide, and the impact of military service on families. This innovative project has been used to open up crucial dialogue, break down stigmas, and encourage health-seeking behavior for more than 60,000 Service Members, Veterans, and their families.

OSPF believes that the Theater of War: Soldiers and Citizen’s Tour is consistent with its mission and vision as a non-profit 501(c)(3) that has served as a catalyst for the prevention of suicide in Ohio since 2005. The dialogue and performance of Theater Of War fosters a deeper understanding of the military culture to enhance programs and services to Service Members and Veterans who are at increased risk of self-harm. The VA estimates that a veteran takes his or her life every 80 minutes- about 6,500 suicides per year. That is 20% of all suicides in the United States.
