The 2017 Ohio Regional Peer Recovery Supporter Symposiums:
Ethics & Boundaries and Certification Boot Camp
Peer support programs have unique ethical challenges. Although peer recovery support specialists typically receive agency-based training on how to navigate their unique roles, most haven't received formal social work or comprehensive ethics education.
Peer recovery support programs pose interesting client boundary and dual-relationship questions. Peer recovery supporters might be hired as colleagues of their former service providers, or may now find themselves in the position of providing services to those they were previously in treatment with. And what about the dilemma of peer recovery supporters who relapse and are again in need of services themselves?
These symposiums will discuss the ways that peer recovery supporters can respond to their specific ethical challenges. Additional topics include client privacy and confidentiality, informed consent, and more!
At the end of the symposium, representatives from OhioMHAS will be available to individually review your certification application! So bring all of your materials and have an expert tell you where you stand! Many are still confused about the certification requirements for Ohio Peer Recovery Supporters, and there is a lot of misinformation floating around. Don't rely on rumors, get accurate information straight from the source.
We will be hosting symposiums in multiple locations in order to engage peer supporters throughout the state.
